Do I have to lay on a couch?

You can if you want to! There are a lot of differences between me and your classic Freudian comic strip therapist we all have seen characterized over the years. One of which is flexibility! We can walk on the beach, we can sit on a yoga mat, we can have a picnic under the trees, or we can sit in an office in chairs...or even on a couch (actually in my studio I have giant bean bag chairs!)! Let's do what makes you feel most comfortable and most free to explore your experience. Don't know? We'll just try a few things until we get it right!

How many sessions does it take?

Well unfortunately there is no answer for this because every person is different! Certain specific issues might only take a few sessions, certain lifelong traumas might take a few more. You may want to settle in for six sessions to start and then we can together decide what we think is best going forward. We need time to get your story, find your hopes, learn some stuff, and put it into practice... be patient, be gentle. and bring only the expectation that you CAN do this and you are not alone.

How often should I attend sessions?

Depending on what kind of support you are looking for it may be ideal to work weekly/bi-weekly to start and move to a monthly session once you are well on your way with your new practices and understandings.

What modalities do you use in these sessions?

Accepted Answer

I use an eclectic blend of modalities based on the individual needs of clients but I am largely informed by, and trained in, Polyvagal (nervous system informed) Therapy, Mindfulness and Self-Compassion, Compassion-focused, Acceptance, Narrative, Solutions-Focused, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Internal Family Systems.
